Cleversafe
A piece of software that does distributed data storage over multiple nodes. The data is "sliced up" into small enough pieces that accessing the data on any one node will not yield anything useable, but apparently in an 11-node cluster, up to 5 nodes can fail and one can still retrieve all the data from the cluster. Impressive. There are binaries available only for a few Linux distributions at this point, but surely there will be a Win32 client around soon.

DIY Aeroponic Unit
Similar to hydroponics but uses a mist of water/fertilizer onto small baskets of growth medium rather than pumping the water/fertilizer through a large piece of growth medium in order to saturate it.

Washing soda? Vitamin C? Instant coffee? Who'd have thought..

Develop B & W film in your bathroom
Did it in shop class back in junior high (though in a proper darkroom, of course). Nice to see a complete step-by-step on the chemicals, the process, etc. for doing it yourself.

Free Download Manager

Free Download Manager
- A very decent download manager, which is of course free. Good for downloading large files, and FDM works well with the FlashGot extension for Firefox.
